Session 5: Review: a bench status report

Review & mini-project120 minNo new lesson

Learning outcomes

  • Combine variables, maths and Serial output in one small program
  • Fix compile errors by reading the first message
  • Explain your own sketch line by line to a partner

Kit and components

  • Uno, USB cable and lab PC
  • D8 LED circuit

Pre-reading about 15 min

Students read these on their phones before class. They are listed on the student Before class page.

    Mini-project: bench status report

Students write a sketch that blinks D8, counts the blinks and prints a report each second: blink count, uptime as minutes and seconds, and the LED current calculated from their resistor. They explain each line to a partner.

    Faults we met this week

Collect the compiler errors students met this week and group them into fault classes - a preview of S19.

Checkpoint: ready to move on?

Every student has completed Code Along chapter 1 and at least five core exercises in chapter 2.

Extension for fast finishers

Catch-up path

Students below the checkpoint complete the chapter 2 core exercises with a partner before S6.

Homework and practice

Pre-reading for S6.
