Week 5 ยท Analogue, PWM & Task A

Session 25: Task A: build, test and demonstrate

Assessment120 minNo new lesson

Learning outcomes

  • Build and test the fan speed selector against the success criteria
  • Measure the PWM output and record it as evidence
  • Demonstrate and explain debounce and the state logic

Kit and components

  • Task A circuit from S24
  • Oscilloscope and multimeter
  • Printed Task A criteria grids

Pre-reading about 15 min

Students read these on their phones before class. They are listed on the student Before class page.

  2. Theory Reference: Edge detection

Session plan

    Discuss

    Start-of-session check

Approve any plans finished as homework before those learners continue.

    Build and test

Learners finish the sketch and run their test table, including 20 rapid presses and a held button, and measure D6 at LOW on the scope.

  3. 1:1535 min
    Assess

    Demonstrations

Each learner demonstrates for 3-4 minutes: run the 20-press test yourself, press B at LOW and at HIGH, check the Serial log and ask two questions.

  4. 1:5010 min
    Wrap-up

    Results

Mark each criterion; learners marked NYC receive feedback and the S35 reassessment date.

Checkpoint: ready to move on?

Every learner has a marked Task A grid, with feedback and a reassessment date where needed.

Extension for fast finishers

Not assessed: add a third button for a 10-second boost to HIGH that then returns to the previous speed.

Catch-up path

Learners marked NYC revisit the buttons and timing chapters for the criteria they missed before S35.

Homework and practice

Pre-reading for S26.

Facilitator notes

  • Call learners to demonstrate as they finish testing so nobody waits idle.
